A humanoid robot, printed in 3D, with a chatgpt brain for only 70 euros? Yes, it exists! Discover Alana, a more affordable and more fun robot.

We often imagine that a robot, it’s expensive and full of complicated pieces. But here, no need for complex tools or big budget. Alana shows that with a little idea, a 3D printer and a little time, you can create a functional humanoid robot, equipped with a brain based on chatgpt, for a ridiculous price.

A robot with an affordable and well thought out chatgpt

Designed by Shashwat Batish, Alana is an open source humanoid robotto assemble yourself. He has no legs or heads, but that does not prevent him from being expressive.

This actual humanoid robot has two realistic armseach with six degrees of freedom. With this system, it moves easily, salutes people and manipulates what it wants. And according to its creator, Alana can even lift 500 grams at arm’s length.

Instead of betting on expensive materials, Batish preferred a 3D structure and light PVC tubes. The whole is economical, easy to mount, and does not exceed 70 euros, feeding included.

The arms are activated by johnson motorcyclers turning 10 laps per minute. Some engines faster 30 to 60 laps per minute allow fluid movements.

The shoulder comes alive via a tinkered servomotor with a printed case and a small potentiometer. As for the DC 12 V engine, it is firmly screwed using threaded inserts. A visible benchmark indicates its exact position.

In addition to its mechanics, the robot brain is based on a simple circuit based on LM358 fleas. The circuit directs the engines using microcontrollers spread as Arduino (5 V) Or ESP32 (3.3 V). To refine the movements, small potentiometers are used to adjust the speed and orientation.

The robot is powered by a source 450 W zebronics. It provides 12 V for engines, 5 V for the main controller, and 3.3 V for possible sensors. The system remains compact, stable and easy to maintain.

Natural interaction thanks to Chatgpt

But here it is … Alana is not only a robot that moves. She also knows how to speak, listen, react. Thanks to a camera, She spots objects and faces. Simple commands go through an ESP8266. However, for advanced functions, a computer connected to Wi-Fi takes over.

It was he who created a model of chatgpt language as a reference. This system generates answers and reads them aloud via a vocal engine.

In this way, The interaction seems more alive Let us sometimes forget that we speak to a machine. Alana can discuss, recognize a face, and even react according to the expression of the person.

Not only can it manipulate objects, but it does it with precision. And according to its creator, it even has a somewhat original character which makes it engaging!

The project is published on Instructable. We find all 3D filesPython scripts, clear explanations.

So, would you be ready to build yours? Does this kind of project make you want to try? We are waiting for your opinions in the comments!
